Don’t Let Them Spook Poochie

Well, here we are again with another Halloween at our doorsteps. It’s such a fun holiday with lots of “spirit”. Everybody likes to dress up and masquerade around town with their pets and families. Costume contests abound for man and pet alike. Cats are known to stretch their spines out like slinkies and warn everybody of the spooky specters creeping around the corner.

We hope you have a great time, but seriously… don’t let them spook your dog. Dogs can get spooked by strangers and especially people who don’t even look like people. Be sure to keep your black cats inside – don’t want any evil zombies getting them.

Take caution while you’re enjoying your festivities. We wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt on this ghoulish night!

Chocolate + Dogs = Trouble

With the holidays approaching, we must once again warn our clients not to give chocolate to their dogs. Actually, we’d better warn to not have chocolate anywhere near where your dog can get to it. This means trick or treats, assorted chocolates boxes on the coffee table, brownies, fudge, etc.

Dogs can get very tempted, just like you can – so take extra precautions to keep them out of reach.

Why is chocolate so toxic to dogs?

Because it contains a stimulant called “theobromine”, which affects the nervous system and heart. It also increases urination, but the main point is that dogs’ systems can’t metabolize it and it begins to build up the toxin levels, which can lead to serious health conditions and even death! Caffeine is also in chocolate, which is also a canine toxin.

So take care of your pets as if they were your children. They will love you just the same without any chocolate at all!

Health Tips: Wellness Pops

Dogs can get sick, just like people do. One of the main things that allows disease to set in is a low immune system. Some of the most common incidents where this can occur are:

  • First time vet visits
  • Travel to new places
  • Doggie day care
  • Boarding
  • Puppies going to new homes
  • Newly-rescued dogs
  • Elderly pets
  • Other situations where new pathogens or disease may be encountered

Just as you would have your medicine handy in your own cabinet, we would like to suggest that you have something for your canine friend.

Wellness Pops are a unique one-time single serving packet of powerful herbs, homeopathics and probiotics for spontaneous use. They are very easy to use: Just pour in mouth, mix with liquid and give by mouth or, lastly, add to food if not able to give by mouth.

Made with organic ingredients!

Prepare for the Winter Months

Pet Grooming is certainly necessary in the summer months when it’s hot outside. But keeping your pet groomed during the winter is just as important.

First of all, during the winter months your pet won’t be able to go swimming. It’s time to be indoors for the most part and that’s when we should look and smell our best around the house.

For longer-haired pets, keeping the hair fuller is important to stay warmer. That means that hair needs to be cleaned and brushed out. Nobody wants a matted, smelly pet around. Dogs who get cut short for summer time fun are now needing more coat left on them. This means brushing often is essential. A simple “brush & fluff” service (no-bath) is available at our salon year-round, for a nominal fee. This avoids matting and profuse shedding for those dogs who shed hair. Or we can do a simple “brush & bath” withe a “tidy-up” (light trim) to keep your pet comfortable throughout the season.

Of course, the toenails need to be trimmed; ears kept clean and anal glands must be expressed as a regular routine for good health and comfort.

So, let’s all gear up for the winter and make that trip to the salon. Let’s stay cozy and warm together until springtime!

In Loving Memory: Ella

Ella Belle Aster Panzik

We are sad to announce that Ella passed away in October. For those of you who knew Ella, you most certainly are aware that she was one of the brightest, most intellectual canines to ever roam the planet. Ella was nearly 11 years old when she met her calling.

We held a private funeral service for her in her home. She has moved on, but she will be easily recognized in the future. She has a distinctive way of offering her paw and letting you hold it for as long as you want. Most canines won’t do this, because of Mother Nature’s survival mechanisms.

Rest in Peace, our Princess…

Are We Poisoning Our Pets (and don’t know it)?

It is imperative that you learn about what is in your pets’ food, so that you will know what is best to feed them in order to keep them healthy.

There has been a lot of information recently about what genetically engineered (GE) foods are doing to the health of humans but this same GE food is also killing and destroying the health of the animal kingdom.

We know that all of us love our pets and want the best for them. We personally have been feeding raw food for nearly 10 years now, but we also add in some dry and canned food for variety.

After watching this YouTube video called “Genetic Roulette”, we are now even more particular when it comes to the choices we make for ourselves and our pets’ well-being, when it comes to diet or nutrition. You will probably be hearing a lot more about this subject in the near future (on the news and in legislature) about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s).

Take a look at this video. We know it’s lengthy, but it’s really worth your time, and could save your pets’ (or even human loved-ones’) lives.
